The Boyden Library provides Internet access to all library patrons under the following guidelines established by the Library Board of Trustees. These guidelines are intended to ensure appropriate use of Internet resources within the library, and are based on generally recognized Internet protocols. All patrons accessing the Internet through any Boyden Library computer or through the library’s wireless network must agree to observe these guidelines as a condition of their Internet use. Please click here for the Boyden Library’s Wireless Access Policy.
The Internet provides access to information resources far greater than those available at any individual library. However, not all Internet resources provide accurate, current, or authoritative information, and certain sources may contain information that some library patrons may find offensive or disturbing. The Boyden Library neither selects nor restricts Internet content – library patrons access the Internet at their own discretion.
All patrons using the Internet must do so in a responsible manner. This includes the following:
hardware; or damaging or altering software components of any network or database
not attempting to modify or gain access to files, passwords, or data belonging to others;
Internet Computer Use
Access to the library’s four sit-down Internet computers and the stand-up Internet Express computer is available to all library card holders in good standing. The Children’s Room Internet computer is reserved for use by children ages 12 and under.
Children ages 17 and under must have signed permission from their parent or guardian on file at the library. Forms are available at the Circulation Desks. Parents and legal guardians are encouraged to supervise their children’s Internet activity.
Only two users are permitted at one time on any individual computer.
No user may use the library card of another individual for access to the Internet.
Adult Dept. patrons may use up to 75 minutes of Internet computer time each day, either in one session or in multiple sessions. Children’s Room computer users may register for 30 minute or 60 minute sessions. Additional computer time may be authorized by library staff subject to computer availability, patron demand, and previous reservations.
Reservations for computer time may be made by telephone or in person; walk-in use is also permitted. Your scheduled time may be reassigned if you fail to arrive within five minutes of your reserved time.
Internet computers are available at the library’s opening time. All computer sessions end at 15 minutes before closing.
Information cannot be saved to Internet computer hard drives. Floppy disks are available for purchase at the Circulation Desks. Patrons may use their own floppy disks or USB flash storage devices to save their information.
Users, or in the case of minors their parents, are responsible for any damage to hardware or software and will be liable for repair/replacement costs. Report any problems to library staff immediately. Please do not attempt to fix a problem yourself.
Wireless Internet access is available to patrons bringing in their own properly equipped laptop computers. See our Wireless Access Policy for more information. Wireless access in the Children’s Room is available only to children and their accompanying parents or caregivers.
